Duncan McKelvie was born in North East Scotland and lived most of his life there, steeped in the rich music and traditions of the area. First learning the fiddle, then the pipes he has learned from and played with old and new masters alike. Now living in Leipzig he has soon become highly in demand for playing high quality traditional Scottish music on the bagpipe and fiddle to events all over Germany and Europe.

Fiddle
Scottish and Irish fiddle has a particular style that mostly lies in the use of the bow and where the accents of the melody are placed.
I can give you all the instructions, tips and tricks that you need to get that authentic Scottish/Irish fiddle sound.
I also offer short courses for existing players who, perhaps have played mostly classical music and want to start experimenting with traditional styles. This doesn't involve a set of rigid rules, but more introduces a feel for the music and gives the learner a „bag of tools“ that he or she can use to create a personal style. This is very much in keeping with the history and style of traditional fiddle music.
Piping
To play the Scottish or Highland Bagpipe one must first learn the practice chanter and the rudiments before progressing to the bagpipe itself.
Unlike the fiddle, the bagpipe is less flexible in it’s musical structure and has a definite set of „rules“ involved in learning the techniques needed to play the instrument correctly.
I can lead students through those techniques step by step in a friendly and supportive way. I’m also happy to give advise on buying and setting up the full bagpipe when the time comes. You don't need to experiment on your own. I can give you all the advise, tips and instructions that can save you a lot of time and frustration.
To become a competent player one must be willing to invest time and money and also decide where one can practice with the full pipe as it is quite loud. It’s worth considering these points before starting. Being able to play well on a good sounding pipe is a fantastic experience.

Lieber Mathew, es war in allem ein absolut gelungener Abend. Meine Eltern haben noch tagelang davon gesprochen und die Überraschung ist wirklich gelungen.
